Vehicle Relocation Program

Friday, January 6th 2017

Friday, 1/6, 8p: individual performances at Panoply Performance Laboratory in Brooklyn.
Saturday, 1/7, 8p: collaborative performances (by car) at Palanzos Beer in Pittsburgh.
Sunday 1/8, 6p: Join us at 6p for an open discussion on the politics of touring in a post-fossil fuel/post-trump America. 8p: Individual performances at Palanzos Beer in Pittsburgh.

Ten artists, five per car. Small bundles of supplies and some instruments. What did you forget to bring that you can retrieve where you are now? Vehicles, metaphors, motives, motion, bodies inside bodies. How long does the trip take when you're hungry? Taco Bell or Pizza Hut? From where to where? How long does the trip take? Until, I mean, wait, how long does the trip take when you swallow until you can't? Have you been here before? Have you gone the distance? This is the middle of the road. This is the lane. Try not to break down in the tunnel. Bridge between something and something. This is my house. No spitting in the car.

A 3 day performance event between brooklyn, pittsburgh, and many a flying J and rest area en route, featuring:

Jill Flanagan (Forced into Femininity) : Isn’t it just like a woman to be mischevious, impetuos and impulsive, to want the freedom to what she likes? And isn’t it like a woman to be mysterious, impenetrable, to have depths in which we plunge in vain in search of some lost part of ourselves? Jill Flanagan thinks so, and she’s here to spread her twisted hysterical ideology with a little soft shoe routine and some jazz standards.

Valerie Kuehne : accross the country, dopamine filling stations are popping up like deerticks. Watch your childhood melt in front of your eyes and change your perception in the warmth of a truck stop bathroom. There is no way to prepare yourself for what is happening right now.

Esther Neff is the co-director of Panoply Performance Laboratory (PPL) with Brian McCorkle. She likes tubes and theory and clay. Kaia Gilje is a defender of the most vulnerable patterns, roughly handling and tenderly padding when futures abruptly end in a growl. She has made nests, looms, arrangements, decisions, and actions in many different locations.

FULL DAY Performancy Forum: glitch/heal OR gore/harm

Saturday, December 10th 2016

1. HEAL: assisting, caretaking, and healing processes penetrate the skin of reality following pressure points along the spine; glitches in the daily, peaceful moments of patience+pause, repetitions which overwhelm self-reproductive sensibilities, small objects tracking pathways, telepathic contact, passed notes, touch and talk beading like sweat between our bellies

2. HARM: anti-normalizing, sabatoging, and resisting processes exhume the bowels of sociality and being; poltergeists and parasites of the gut, arson of the eye, martyrdom of the mind, murder of the moment, removal of fundamental organs, all the entrails of love spilling out across the floor

Flashbulb: An exhibition of performance, video, + sound

While I breathe, I hope, 2015 (screenshot) © 2015 KLEDIA SPIRO http://www.klediaspiro.com/#/while-i-breathe-i-hope-project/
Saturday, October 8th 2016

An exhibition of seven performances involving sound, projection and duration that relate to memory, particularly the contracting accuracy/inaccuracy of histories and how those affect our reality.

The event, titled FLASHBULB, will feature Jose Garza, Valerie Kuehne, Judith G. Levy, Luke Mannarino, Cris Schayer, Kledia Spiro, and Nathan Wyrick. CURATED BY Cris Schayer.

A flashbulb memory is a highly detailed, exceptionally vivid 'snapshot' of the moment and circumstances in which a piece of surprising and consequential (or emotionally arousing) news was heard. The term "flashbulb memory" suggests the surprise, indiscriminate illumination, detail, and brevity of a photograph; however flashbulb memories are only somewhat indiscriminate and are far from complete. Evidence has shown that although people are highly confident in their memories, the details of the memories can be forgotten.

Flashbulb memories have six characteristic features: place, ongoing activity, informant, own effect, other effect, and aftermath. Arguably, the principal determinants of a flashbulb memory are a high level of surprise, a high level of consequentiality, and perhaps emotional arousal.

These memories, often vivid yet inaccurate, often form lasting impressions on our selves and change who we are. In this we question the reality of our own histories.

Trauma salon : mastication & medication

Thursday, February 25th 2016

we need catharsis but not right now. catharsis is the last great vestige of alien life yet composed of earth. we are catharsis. all the time. we're just moving wrong.
run faster. scream louder. speak deeper. seek closer. love fuller. do more. do less. do less of more. do more of less.
in such a way, we endlessly confess.

The Brooklyn Experimental Song Revival

Tuesday, December 15th 2015

this past fall : the super coda & naked roots conducive hosted the first edition of the brooklyn experimental song carnival, featuring over 20 artists performing within & against the space between sound and narrative. there was catharsis. there was shock. there was gut-splitting beauty & probably grace.

december 15th : we continue the search for new organs, catharsis, some god-forsaken nexus, the proverbial ghost-in-the-machine. you know, songs & shit.

trauma salon : bafflement & benediction

Sunday, December 20th 2015

we engage/question those around us. we must. must we? in speaking our truth to another do we realize a deeper meaning? or do we lose the meaning altogether? layers of abstraction/collision/delineation/confusion/translation/fear - we may never break free. we may very well be already lost in the moss of complication.
but then again. perhaps we do break free. perhaps the point is full of air.
in such a way, we endlessly attempt.
